SEVEN DEADLY SPINS: 9/17/12-9/23/12

Seven Deadly Spins is a pretty appropriate name this week, as I’ve been really into last year’s Halloween mixtape and already started making this year’s playlist. (Gives me an excuse to play a bunch of songs with those high-pitched, cringe-inducing knife noises that I love, like Penderecki’s “Threnody for the Victim’s of Hiroshima,” which my roommates just taught me about.) Also of note this week: Monday’s Passion Pit concert added a dash of manic-depressive electro-pop to the mix and my internship at UMG Nashville’s got me hooked on Kacey Musgraves’ new single.

Now, my number one pick for the week isn’t available on Spotify. On Thursday, Nashville babes D. Watusi released their debut LP Dark Party. It’s a true throwback to 60s garage rock, with a dash of surf rock towards the end. (The organ plays a starring role on the album– as do the weird telephone and teleporter noises.) If you didn’t snag a record at the Nashville’s Dead birthday party on Thursday, you’re SOL on the physical front, but thankfully, the dudes at our favorite combination blog/label put the whole thing on Soundcloud for free.
